2010 Board of Directors Biographies
Dierdre Mullen- (President): Dierdre has been an active member of DRAR since March 2004. She is an active volunteer with the Red Cross Disaster Management Team and was previously a Director of Administration for the Canadian Red Cross. Dierdre is currently Chair of both the Office Representatives Program and the Charity Auction Task Force.
Objective: To work on behalf of the Members of DRAR by participating in planning, establishing direction, making policy decisions and other related functions of the Board of Directors.
Debbie Dawson- (Immediate Past-President): Debbie was licensed in 1990 and attained her brokerage license in 1994. She currently is a co-owner of Century 21 Infinity Realty Inc. Debbie has served on the Board of Directors for DRAR in 1995, 2007, 2008 and was the President in 2009. She is the current Chair of the Advertising Standards Task Force and is a governor for the OREA REALTORS Care™ Foundation. Debbie has had extensive experience in volunteering and non-profit organizations over the last 24 years. She is very involved in the Wounded Soldiers and also the Cancer Society. Prior to entering Real Estate, Debbie was the Labour Relations Manager for a large manufacturing company in Toronto.
Objective: Debbie looks forward to putting the needs of the Members first at DRAR.
Christine Marquis – (Acclaimed: Director-at-Large): Christine has been a Salesperson since 2001 and served on the Board of Directors in 2006, 2007 and 2009. Her areas of expertise include finance and education. Christine has acted as Chair of both the DRAR Education and Membership Committees.
Objective: To assist DRAR in its continuing efforts to serve its Members in a fiscally responsible manner.
Ian Smith- (Acclaimed: Director-at-Large): Ian has been in the real estate profession since 1987. He obtained his Broker’s License in 1991 and has been the Broker/Owner of his own real estate office since 1993. Ian has served in the past as DRAR President in 2004 & 2005, Past-President in 2006 & 2007, continuing to sit on the Board for 2008 & 2009, and is the current Chair of the MLS® Committee. He is active with TREB’s MLS® Committee as well as OREA’s Green Tide Committee.
Objective: To continue to support REALTORS® at all levels of industry and government.
Catherine Ayotte– (Acclaimed: Regional Director Durham North): Cathy has been licensed in Real estate for 20 years, with a background in finance, education and public relations. She has been a member of the Education Committee and Charity Auction Task Force for over 5 years.
Objective: For all DRAR Members to work harmoniously, to try to encourage new Members. She will work diligently to promote the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® and encourage Members to join Committees & Task Forces.
Deborah Guislain– (Acclaimed: Regional Director Durham Centre): Debbie has been licensed in Real Estate for 6 years. She is a Branch Manager with a background in Human Resources, who is a Certified Mentor and Trainer with Buffini & Company as well as serving on the DRAR Education Committee for 4 years.
Objective: To be involved and make a difference! To focus on communication & relationship building between the DRAR Membership. To continue to raise the bar in the consumer perception of the real estate industry – embracing our values. To empower the DRAR Membership to believe in their real estate careers.
Dan Wood – (Acclaimed: Regional Director Durham West): Dan has been licensed in Real Estate for 3 years and currently sits on the Agent Leadership Council of Keller Williams Energy and the Communications Committee & the Website Task Force of DRAR. He has a background in technology and traditional and interactive marketing.
Objective: Offering DRAR Members more educational events geared towards the real world business of real estate – lead generation, lead follow-up, internet, starting a career and succession planning. Special areas of focus include keeping DRAR membership fees to a minimum, retaining DRAR Membership levels, making DRAR more visible to our community and leveraging the local media to give us more reach to the public.
Sandra O’Donohue – (Acclaimed: Regional Director Durham East): Sandra has been licensed in real estate for 28 years and is currently the Director of Recruiting and Training at RE/MAX Ability Real Estate. With a background in hiring, recruiting and a mortgage agent, she has served on the Professional Standards Committee for over 20 years.
Objective: To participate in and support any awareness programs that promote our Association to the general public, and to promote DRAR services to the Membership.
